Following her acclaimed Freda, Haitian filmmaker Gessica Généus returns with Marie Madeleine, which premiered in the Official Selection – Cannes Première and now screens in TIFF’s Centrepiece programme.

In Jacmel, Haiti, Marie Madeleine is a fiercely independent woman whose path crosses that of Joseph, a young evangelical struggling with his faith. Their unlikely relationship opens a world where desire, belief, morality, and the search for freedom collide.
